Sexual offending among juveniles is a unique problem requiring a unique response from mental health professionals, law enforcement, and the justice system. When both the perpetrator and the victim of a sex crime are children, understanding the dynamic of abuse is especially challenging. Factors associated with juvenile sex offending differ from those associated with adult offending and involve a complex interaction of biological, developmental, social, familial, and psychological variables., In just two hours, Dr. Sarah Shelton addresses the research, theories, clinical practice standards, and legal-ethical considerations of evaluating and treating juvenile sex offenders. Join Dr. Shelton as she highlights a clinical case example, discusses societal attitudes towards juvenile sex offending, and explores controversies surrounding the mental health and juvenile justice systems' response to this problem.

Your Presenter:
SARAH SHELTON, PsyD, MS, MPH, MSCP, MSCS, NCPC, NCCE, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in Health and Forensics. In addition to her doctorate in Clinical Psychology, she possesses graduate degrees in Public Health, Forensics, and Psychopharmacology. She is an international presenter and author of peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters, and is frequently published in the popular press. Dr. Shelton founded Psychological Wellness Group, LLC in Paducah, Kentucky, and has over a decade of clinical experience. She holds multiple professorships as well as state and national level elected and appointed positions. Dr. Shelton frequently serves as an expert witness in family, juvenile, civil, and criminal courts.
