Full Description: Many professionals, at one time or another, are confronted with sexual attraction to a client. Anyone who deals with the needs of others in a professional setting is vulnerable to these feelings. If not properly dealt with, these feelings and issues can have grave consequences, up to and including loss of license, arrest, and imprisonment. It is apparent that many professional training programs do not adequately prepare therapists and counselors to deal with these issues. This webinar instructs participants on the dangers of dual relationships, ignoring personal feelings, and not confronting inappropriate client behavior. Through discussion of personal values, therapeutic and anti-therapeutic seduction, how and why clients seduce, and therapeutic power dynamics, participants will be able to consider how best to set and maintain appropriate boundaries in a counseling environment. Course Includes: Live Q&A Presentation Handout Post session recording access CE Credit What You Will Learn: Explain the role of values in the counseling relationship Define sexual transference and countertransference Assess the dangers of not addressing, with a supervisor or therapist, personal feelings triggered by clients Analyze how a client might try to seduce the therapist Identify the dynamics of therapeutic seduction Your Presenter: FRANCES PATTERSON, PhD, LADAC, MAC, BCPC, CCJAS, QSAP, QCS, is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor in Tennessee, and a Master Addictions Counselor and Qualified Substance Abuse Professional through the National Association of Addictions Professionals (NAADAC). She holds a certification as a Criminal Justice Addictions Specialist and is a board certified professional counselor with the American Psychotherapy Association. Dr. Patterson is a Certified Clinical Supervisor in the State of Tennessee and oral examiner for A&D licensure. She has worked as a clinician and program administrator in treatment programs in Virginia and Tennessee for 25 years. Dr. Patterson is owner of Footprints Consulting Services, LLC in Nashville, Tennessee. She provides program consultation, professional training, clinical supervision, and client education and assessment. She is the chair of NAADAC's clinical issues committee and member of the ethics committee, member of the NAADAC Trainers Academy, and NAADAC approved trainer. In 2005, Dr. Patterson was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Tennessee Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and in 2006 she received the Mel Schulstad Award, NAADAC's national Professional of the Year award. She has conducted professional training locally, statewide, and nationally for more than 15 years on addictions, mental health, and professional counseling issues to a variety of disciplines. She is recently published in Addiction Professional magazine. She is well known for her professionalism, sense of humor, and ability to engage her audience in the topics she presents.
