Full Description: Ethics is much more than just “the law.” Therapists regularly encounter ethical dilemmas that are not as clearly defined, and they must be informed in order to make sound decisions. In this webinar, participants will examine ethical considerations around confidentiality and technology. Discussion of the risks involved in not appropriately addressing transference and countertransference in the counseling relationship will also be included. Dr. Patterson will conclude by emphasizing the importance of identifying, addressing, and reporting ethical violations, as well as safeguarding one’s professional competence and reputation. Course Includes: Live Q&A Presentation Handout Post session recording access CE Credit What You Will Learn: Explain the ethical guidelines surrounding the use of electronic communications Recognize the presence of transference and countertransference in a therapeutic relationship Assess the dangers of dual relationships Analyze issues concerning sexual transference and countertransference Determine when it is necessary to report ethical violations Your Presenter: FRANCES PATTERSON, PhD, LADAC, MAC, BCPC, CCJAS, QSAP, QCS, is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor in Tennessee, and a Master Addictions Counselor and Qualified Substance Abuse Professional through the National Association of Addictions Professionals (NAADAC). She holds a certification as a Criminal Justice Addictions Specialist and is a board certified professional counselor with the American Psychotherapy Association. Dr. Patterson is a Certified Clinical Supervisor in the State of Tennessee and oral examiner for A&D licensure. She has worked as a clinician and program administrator in treatment programs in Virginia and Tennessee for 25 years. Dr. Patterson is owner of Footprints Consulting Services, LLC in Nashville, Tennessee. She provides program consultation, professional training, clinical supervision, and client education and assessment. She is the chair of NAADAC's clinical issues committee and member of the ethics committee, member of the NAADAC Trainers Academy, and NAADAC approved trainer. In 2005, Dr. Patterson was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award by Tennessee Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and in 2006 she received the Mel Schulstad award, NAADAC's national Professional of the Year award. She has conducted professional training locally, statewide, and nationally for more than 15 years on addictions, mental health, and professional counseling issues to a variety of disciplines. She is recently published in Addiction Professional magazine. She is well known for her professionalism, sense of humor, and ability to engage her audience in the topics she presents.
