Description: Work with, not against, clients with co-occurring substance use disorders by using harm reduction therapy to forge an effective therapeutic alliance.

Full Description:
Counseling individuals who have co-occurring substance use disorders is often challenging and marked by apparent resistance, denial, and drop-out. Clients are often ready to address problems such as depression and anxiety, while reluctant to change their substance use. Well-intended clinicians may find themselves creating a confrontational atmosphere, rather than one that is collaborative.

This webinar will introduce harm reduction therapy (HRT) as a proven approach for developing a more stable and productive therapeutic alliance with clients who have co-occurring substance use disorders. Participants will delve into the philosophy, techniques, and ethical considerations associated with HRT. Dr. Rotgers will conclude by using current research findings to make the case that HRT is an effective model for increasing client engagement and achieving better treatment outcomes.

Course Includes:
Live Q&A
Presentation Handout
